Leyland’s spectacular bonfire night celebration is expected to attract around 14,000 visitors to Worden Park next month.

Leyland Round Table’s 41st bonfire and fireworks display is set to take place at the park on November 5, to bring the skies above the town to life once again.

Leyland Round Table chairman, Paul Morgan, said: “Preparations are going really well, as always.

“I’m glad it’s on a Monday this year because we’ve found in the past that more people tend to come midweek than they do at weekend.

“One year, we had 17,000 people turn up, and we’re expecting about 14,000 this time.

“It’s always very popular.”

The bonfire, which will be on the field near the duck pond, will be lit at 6.30pm, with the £6,000 firework display starting at 7.45pm.

There will also be a fun fair on the main car park, and food stalls, featuring sweets and non-alcoholic mulled wine.

Mr Morgan added: “It’s one of the biggest firework displays in Lancashire. We have a professional team come in to do the fireworks for us, and they’ve put on a great show for the past 15 years or so now.

“There will also be a radio station there playing music, so there’s lots to look forward to.”

Worden Lane will be closed from 5pm until about midnight, and parking is available at nearby Runshaw College.

Tickets can be bought in advance from a number of schools and independent shops in the town centre, which should display a notice in the window.

They cost £2.50 in advance or £5 on the night, and children under five can enter the park for free.

Gates open at 6pm.

Paul said: “This is a very important event for the Leyland Round Table.

“It costs around £10,000 to put on, and we usually raise between £26,000 and £30,000 each time.

“Some of that money is put aside for next year’s event, and the rest is donated to local, worthwhile causes.

“It’s a really good community occasion.”
