Food stalls offering tastes from around the world will play a tasty part in this month’s Leyland Festival.

The ‘Around the World’ theme, chosen to tie in with the World Cup, also lends itself to celebrating culinary treats from different countries, and visitors to the popular event on June 21 will have the chance to sample cuisine from across the globe.

Leyland Festival Committee member Joanne Worsfold said: “Following last year’s Man vs Food competition, and the ice cream tasters the year before, feedback from the public has shown that one thing they really want to see more of are food stalls.

“With the ‘World Wide’ theme it made sense to get different types of foods from around the world, but still made by local businesses.

“The Man vs Food competition last year was a great success and raised a lot of money for a charity, which for us as a committee ticks all the boxes, because a local businesses, a local charity and local people all got involved.”

A number of firms are already on board, and will set up food stalls around the Arts and Crafts Centre in Worden Park.

Freshly Made Doughnuts; Karnivarious Bites (Greek gyros); Dippy Doos (American pancakes); 1st Class Caterers (assorted snacks); Great British Burger Co (locally sourced specialist burgers); Leyland’s Chicken Barbeque (hot beef, pork and ham sandwiches); Leyland’s Purple Pig Catering (American-style meatball subs); Gusto Italia (pizza oven); Hungry Do-Do (a taste of Mauritus); and Pan Delight (Asian snacks) have all signed up so far.
