A pair of armed raiders burst into a Leyland newsagents and demanded cash from a pair of terrified shop workers,

They made off from Parmar News in Leyland Lane, Leyland were forced to hand over “a substantial quantity” of cash to two men brandishing hand guns at 6.30pm on New Year’s Eve.

The workers were unhurt in the incident but were “very shaken” by the ordeal.

Arun Parmar, whose family runs the store, said the incident was “unbelievable.”

He said: “We have been here for 20 years and nothing like this has ever happened before, it is unbelievable.

“We get on with the local people, they have been fantastic with us and it is devastating something like this should happen.”

He said the pair of raiders had burst into the shop during the evening.

They pointed the weapons at the chests of the workers and demanded money.

Mr Parmar said: “They did the right thing and just handed over the money.

“They took a substantial quantity of money, but no-one was injured but they were very shaken by it.”

Police were at the scene of the incident on Tuesday morning with forensic investigators carrying out a search of the area.

Det Sgt Richard Horton, of South Ribble CID, said two people were being questioned about the incident.

He said: “Two people have been detained and are still detained and the investigation is still ongoing.

“Various items have been recovered which has assisted the investigation and members of the public have come forward and assisted us too.”
