A bus service is being axed as Stagecoach makes more changes in the area.
The hourly X60/X61 route from Chorley to Manchester is being scrapped under the review, and will no longer operate after January 30.
It’s set to be replaced with a brand new service stopping off at the Trafford Centre and Salford Quays, as well as Manchester city centre, but it will only operate two return journeys a day.
James Mellor, spokesman for Stagecoach, said: “We’ve decided to withdraw the X60/X61 service entirely because it was losing a substantial amount of money, and it wasn’t financially viable to run it.
“The new X25 service won’t be as regular, but it will stop at the same Chorley stops – the hospital on the A6 and the interchange -– and will have more stop-offs towards Manchester.”
Other changes include an additional journey through Limbrick for the 3 and 3A services, and the service 11 from Eaves Lane to the hospital will be extended once an hour to Preston city centre.
“We’re providing opportunities for people to visit other cities for shopping and days out,” Mr Mellor said.
This is the second raft of changes after some were made in September, and MP Lindsay Hoyle launched a petition to prevent any services being axed.
Stagecoach had meetings with the MP and Chorley Council to discuss the proposals, and made alterations to the original plans after hearing what members of the public had to say.
MP Hoyle said: “The original proposals were totally unacceptable because we were going to be losing too many services.
“We’ve managed to save the route through Heath Charnock, and the public seem much happier with these decisions.
“People were worried they wouldn’t be able to access any buses, and the residents had a lot to say.
“Stagecoach has gone some way to meet its requirements and also took the petition and ideas on board.”
Leader of Chorley Council, Coun Peter Goldsw orthy, added: “I’m delighted that Stagecoach has agreed not to scrap more services that run through the Chorley borough.
“It’s still a shame residents will lose a regular service to Manchester.
“But I welcome the new extended service to the Trafford Centre and Salford Quays.”
