Inquest into doctor's death

An inquest into the sudden death of a popular former Leyland doctor will take place later in the year.

Peter Shorrock, 75, collapsed at his Moss Lane home on May 20, just days after being discharged from hospital following a coronary bypass operation.

His death came as a shock to his wife Elizabeth, 72, and daughter Sue, who were both at home with him when he died, and sons Chris and Peter.

Mr Shorrock, who was known mainly from his 30 years at former practice 2 Worden Lane - also known as 'Occleshaw House' - had been at Manchester Royal Hospital for an angiogram.

But there were some complications and he had to have a bypass operation, although he appeared to be making a good recovery and was allowed home.

The keen amateur pilot retired as a doctor, aged 60, to spend more time with his close family and make the most of his villa in Majorca.

His funeral took place on June 9, at St Ambrose Church, Leyland.

His widow, Elizabeth, said the service 'went very well', with hundreds of people packing into the church to pay their respects.

A piece written by Elizabeth about her late husband's life was read aloud by the Rev Duncan Clarke and Mr Shorrock's friend Ken Rainford, with whom he shared his hobby of flying, played the organ.

Elizabeth added: "It was a good send-off and the vicar took it very nicely."

A spokesman for Manchester Coroner's Office confirmed a post mortem had taken place and that an inquest into his death had been opened and adjourned.

There is typically a four to six month waiting period before the full inquest is heard.
