Just ONE street party planned in Leyland
Last year: Street parties for the Royal Wedding were held in Leyland last year, like this one in Hillbrook Road
Only one application has been put forward for a street party in Leyland to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee this year.
In South Ribble five official requests for street parties have been received for the extended June 2-5 weekend - three in Penwortham, one in Leyland and one in Walton-le-Dale.
Community leaders said the economic climate could be to blame for the malaise, while in Preston the Guild is being held responsible, with far more interest being received in holding parties in September instead.
South Ribble Council’s deputy leader, Coun Peter Mullineuax, said: “I think it is up to individuals and maybe people want to celebrate in different ways these days. It is something the council is trying to do and let people know if they want to hold parties the route is a lot easier than it was in the past.
“It is really a case of trying to promote it and get people interested.
“Communities are important and I think the more people who get together the more it will benefit all concerned.”
