A Leyland man who on his own road threatened a teenager with a knife was today handed a custodial sentence at Preston Crown Court.

Paul Gibson, 24, of York Close, Leyland, was jailed for four-and-half years after previously pleading guilty to robbery at an earlier hearing.

The incident took place on York Close in June 2012 with Gibson approaching a seventeen-year-old male and threatening to stab him with a bread knife unless he handed over his mountain bike.

The young man gave his bike, worth approximately £300, to Gibson and fled the scene with the criminal arrested a short time later by officers and the bike returned to the victim.

DC Carl Matthews, of Leyland CID, said: “Gibson used a simple bread knife to make a dangerous threat, steal a bike worth hundreds of pounds and scare a young man severely.

“This sentence sends a stern message to those who threaten others in a bid to take their property – you won’t get away with it.

“I would also like to pay tribute to the victim who has been very brave during the ordeal and assisted the police throughout the investigation.”
