Leyland Post Office talks at 'advanced stage'
With less than 100 days until Leyland's main post office closes, there is still no official announcement on its future.
However, rumours are rife in Hough Lane that the invaluable facility will relocate across the road to the vacant former Blockbuster video store.
The town centre Spar store will end its post office franchise contract in March 2009 and with no statement from Post Office Ltd or the Royal Mail, fears have been growing that Leyland could lose its main branch.
Thousands of people have signed a petition calling for the post office to remain in the town centre and today, a spokesman for Royal Mail confirmed "very serious" talks were taking place with a new owner and that they were at an "advanced stage".
The spokesman said: "We are currently speaking to an interested party with a view to taking over the franchise.
"The proposal put forward is in the vicinity of the current one and would be, geographically, a very similar location."
