Leyland security staff get vests

Staff at a Leyland security firm have been issued with stab-proof vests is response to the growing knife culture.

The Kudos Group, which is based in Worden Park, have so far handed out seven of the vests, which cost up to 250 each.

The first batch have been handed out to security staff working in the NHS in the North West and is set to be followed by an order for another 10.

The initiative is the idea of Kudos' new group business development director Mark Prendergast, who was himself threatened with a knife earlier this year while working as a doorman.

The 36-year-old said: "We've given the first vests to our staff working within the NHS as they work unsociable hours and we feel this is the best way to protect them.

"The reality is you can't open up a paper without reading about a stabbing and we want to be proactive in tackling the problem."

The vests are normally worn under shirts so can't be seen to the public and can protect from everything including knives, syringes, spikes and slashes.
