Leyland tank is vandalised again
The Centurion Tank, Leyland
A LEYLAND tank has been vandalised by thugs for the second time in four months.
The Centurion Tank, on the roundabout where Penwortham Way meets Flensburg Way in Leyland, has been daubed with the word ‘sausage’ in coloured spray.
The tank which was established to celebrate the workers of Leyland, who built it, and the area’s significant Armed Forces population, has now been targeted twice since April.
Coun Peter Mullineaux, deputy leader of South Ribble Council, said: “Mindless vandalism like this makes my blood boil.
“This is the second time in four months that the tank has been targeted like this.
“The tank is a tribute to the workers of Leyland who put the town on the map, as well as our servicemen and women.
“Some people have no respect.
“We will clean off the graffiti by early next week.
“Every penny we spend on sorting out the mess that idiots like this leave behind could otherwise be spent on vital services for our residents.
“We have left this in the capable hands of the police, and I urge anyone with information about this to contact them.”
During the last incident in April, the vandal wrote ‘Rudy 102’ across the side of the tank but Bill Leyland, of Leyland Painters, who coated the tank ahead of its display, returned to paint over it.
