Leyland pub celebrates new start

A Leyland pub has opened its doors after a £230,000 refurbishment.

The Old Leyland Gates pub on Golden Hill Lane has gone through a top-to-toe refit to help it survive the problems faced by the industry.

Peter Crossland, 43, who has owned the pub for two years, said: "Looking around we've noticed a few pubs have closed in Leyland in the last few months alone.

"Our message to everyone is that we're staying put and we're going to get better."

The pub has undergone a complete makeover both inside and out, with a new roof, smoking shelter, dining area and bar.

It was closed for three weeks while renovations were taking place, but reopened this week.

Peter said: "When I first took over, the pub was ok but it was tired. It just needed a bit of work.

"The plan is to relaunch the pub completely. We're going to introduce new food and drink offers and change them all the time to keep it fresh.

"A lot of it was structural work but all of the interior and exterior has been refitted. Everything has been been replaced and we've got brand new fixtures, new lighting and even a new roof."

Last year the pub was the scene of a big brawl but it's hoped the new look will also mark a new beginning.

Peter launches the venture with the same team of staff who he says are well-known in the town.

He said: "It is a real family pub with an open plan dining and seperate bar area.

"We're a place for everyone with the same local and loyal staff.

"Even though I only came here a couple of years ago I know a lot of people. Between myself and the staff, we probably know everyone in Leyland."
