Man charged with arson
Firefighters were called to the address on Young Avenue, Leyland at around 12.45am on Sunday after reports of smoke and flames billowing from a terraced house
A Leyland man has been charged with arson with intent to endanger life following a house fire.
Firefighters were called to an address on Young Avenue, Leyland, at around 12.45am on Sunday after reports of smoke and flames billowing from a terraced house.
The occupants, who are believed to be in their 20s and live with their young son, were not at the scene when the crews arrived.
Watch manager Graham Knowles, of Bamber Bridge fire station, said: “There was smoke damage to every room in the house and severe damage to the front room and its contents; it had been destroyed.”
Crews from fire stations at Leyland and Bamber Bridge were at the property for more than an hour-and-a-half.
Garreth Allen, 32, of Young Avenue, denied the offence at Chorley Magistrates’ Court.
He was remanded in custody and will appear at Preston Crown Court for trial on August 6.
