McDilemma of 24 hour opening
Fastfood giant McDonald's has controversially applied to open 24 hours-a-day in Leyland - sparking fears it could trigger a flurry of similar applications.
Feelings are already running high over the number of fast food outlets in Chapel Brow - which is known locally as 'Takeaway Alley' - and now it's emerged an Indian restaurant wants to open in the link road between Hough Lane and Golden Hill Lane.
However, the news that McDonald's wants its branch in nearby Churchill Way to open around-the-clock has raised fears that it will increase the problems of anti-social behaviour and litter.
Pip Flynn, of Fleetwood Street, says the move will be a 'disaster' and he is starting a petition against the plans.
McDonald's currently opens from 6.30am to 11.30pm every day. If approved the changes mean the restaurant could be serving food around the clock on Saturday and Sundays.
They also want to serve longer on weekdays - from 6am to midnight on Monday - Friday. The changes will only apply to the drive-thru section of the restaurant.
Manager Rachel Hilliker said the move was aimed at providing a better service for people who work unusual hours and she claims every effort to reduce noise and disturbance will be made if the plans are given the go-ahead.
