From school playing fields to English football’s second most expensive teenager.

Phil Jones, from Clayton-le-Woods, has come a long way in a short space of time since he attended Balshaw’s High School, in Leyland,

The 19-year-old offficially signed for Manchester United from Blackburn Rovers for a record £16.5m on Monday – although the figure could eventually rise to £20m.

Only Wayne Rooney has cost more as a teenager than the former Leyland schoolboy.

Friends say he regularly kicks a ball around the park with his mates, despite winning rave reviews for his performances against the likes of Didier Drogba.

His down-to-earth approach comes as no surprise to his former tutor Caroline Molyneaux, who has opened up her photo album to show Phil through the ages.
