The mum of a man who died after walking on the M6 motorway in the early hours of Sunday morning has paid tribute to her ‘private’ son.

Craig Robinson, 31, from Clayton-le-Woods, was hit by a car when he was walking in lane one of the southbound carriageway, junction 29 at Bamber Bridge.

His mum Shirley Dewhurst, 53, said: “Craig was a private person.

“He had a fantastic sense of humour, and he always joked that he got it from me.

“He also loved listening to music, and his favourite type was R&B and hip hop.”

She added: “Craig was single with no children, due to him having little confidence. I guess he never found that special one.

“His hobby was walking, and he was also a secret wrestling fan and supported Manchester United.

“I miss him so much, and he will always be my baby.”

Craig, who was one of three children, worked at Halbro Sportswear in Horwich, Bolton.

He was struck at around 3:50am on Sunday.

It is unclear at this stage why he was in the carriageway, and an investigation is underway to establish the circumstances.

A police spokesman said: “We are appealing for anyone with any information to come forward.

“Although the motorway will have been rather quiet at that early time in the morning, if you were in the area at the time and saw something but have not yet contacted police, then I would urge you to do so by calling us on 101.”
