New garden is hit by vandals
The opening of Farington Mill Gardens on Stanifield Lane
Vandals have already struck a community garden in Leyland just weeks after it opened.
A tree at the Farington Mill Garden, which has brought a patch of land on the corner of Stanifield Lane and Mill Street back to life, has been broken.
Coun Mike Otter, who helped lead the project, said: “I have considered that it could be weather damage, but the general consensus in the community is that it has probably been vandalised.
“I had concerns that it would be a target because it’s very thin, but people in the area are very upset because there was so much positivity surrounding the opening of the garden earlier this month.”
He added: “We can’t let the fear of something being vandalised stop us from doing things like this in the first place though, and these people will not beat us or grind us down.”
A new tree is set to be planted in its place as soon as possible.
