The Wellington Park Hotel on Church Road is getting a new wine bar and tapas restaurant

A trendy wine bar is coming to Leyland.

The Wellington Park Hotel, on Church Road, is refurbishing its restaurants to create a brand new wine and tapas bar.

Karen Caddock, sales and marketing manager, said: “I think we’re bringing something to Leyland that the town hasn’t had before.

“It’ll give people and alternative night out, and somewhere sophisticated to go to enjoy a drink and some food.

“We’re hoping it’ll be really popular because people love to travel and try new things.”

The plans have been approved, and building work is set to start in around two or three weeks.

The hotel already has an English cuisine restaurant called Bentley’s and an Italian called La Scala in the basement area, but Karen says things need freshening up for the business.

“We’re going to keep the Italian because that’s quite successful,” she said. “But we’re putting the wine and tapas area where Bentley’s currently is, and we’re going to bring the two eateries together and call them D’Vino.”

The idea to bring something more exotic to Leyland came about because a staff member had been to a wine bar elsewhere, and the business noticed a gap in the market in Leyland.

Karen also wants to help attract more people to Wellington Park.

She said: “At the moment, the hotel is mainly used for conferences, as well as the occasional wedding, christening or birthday party, but we want to open the doors to wider groups of people.

“I don’t think many people actually know that we have restaurants here.

“But people love to eat in sociable environments, and I think the new wine and tapas bar will work well with the Italian to really bring the place to life.”

A new restaurant manager has been employed, and the work is expected to be finished by the end of April.

A grand opening is planned for May.

The staff are also working on sprucing up the rest of the hotel, particularly the areas which are widely used such as the reception and corridors.

They’re decorating and modernising the hotel.
