Great pub scene: Landlord of the Railway pub in Leyland, Danny Hindle

A busy Leyland pub has had its late night opening hours extended.

The Railway, on Preston Road, can now stay open until 2am on Friday and Saturday nights, as landlord Danny Hindle said more people are staying in Leyland for a good night out.

“There’s so many options for people of all ages in Leyland now,” he said. “There’s no need to go into Preston or other city centres.

“People are realising that it’s cheaper to stay closer to home, and we’ve had a lot of customers asking us to stay open longer at the weekends.

“We saw the opportunity so we applied to South Ribble Council to extend our opening hours, and there were no objections.”

Before this new permission was granted, the pub was already able to stay open to 1am on weekends, but Danny says the extra hour will make a big difference to customers.

“We have a younger crowd in here on Fridays who want to stay here all night,” he said. “We ask them to leave at 1am and they have to go somewhere else for their last drink.

“Now they’ll be able to stay at the Railway.

“We’re going to trial the 2am finishes on Fridays first, and see how it goes. I’m sure it will go down well.”

He added: “It tends to be a bit different on a Saturday. We have a slightly older crowd who leave before 1am anyway, but I thought I might as well apply for the extension for Saturdays too, so I have the option.

“If we’re holding a special event or we’re particular busy one night, we’ll stay open.”

Danny also says the success of nearby establishments is helping his business thrive.

He said: “Leyland has a really good pub scene at the moment.

“I think Wetherspoons has helped this end of town, and the Queens has also just had a makeover, so when pubs in the area are doing well, it encourages more people to come out, and it helps everyone.”
