Residents tackle Leyland boy-racers

Residents in Leyland have been taking direct action against boy-racers.

People living near Churchill Way have long complained about groups of noisy young drivers descending on the McDonald's car park and playing loud music but they say it's getting worse.

Christine Lloyd, who lives on Turpin Green Lane, says recent police activity has helped but revealed she and neighbours decided to confront the drivers - and she pledged to continue to do so.

She said: "The problem never goes away and this past week has been horrendous.

"Last week I kept hearing this noise and I thought it was passing cars.

"The music coming from near McDonald's was so loud you could hear it in my house, and that's 300-400 yards away.

"I would say there was up to a dozen cars there and then one person got out with a mega phone.

"It has been quieter lately but there's always a problem. We know it's difficult to police and we can accept that."

A number of multi-agency crackdowns have already taken place in conjunction with motorway police, traffic patrols, local officers, South Ribble Council and VOSA to tackle cars with modified exhausts and loud stereo systems, and more are in the pipeline.
