Robbery sparks police appeal

Police in Leyland are appealing for witnesses to come forward following a robbery that occurred outside Barclays Bank in Penwortham on Saturday night.

At 10.25pm, two men are believed to have approached a 51 year old man whilst he was in the process of depositing money into the night safe on Liverpool Road.

One of the men has punched the victim, resulting in an eye injury whilst the other man made off with the cash. The offenders have then run off down an alleyway at the side of the bank and into the rear gardens of Rawstorne Road before leaving in a waiting vehicle.

The men are both described as being around 20 years of age, between 5ft 6" and 5ft 7" tall and medium build. One was wearing a black hooded jacket with a white stripe down the arm and the other was wearing black clothing.

The victim was taken to Royal Preston Hospital but fortunately has not sustained any long term damage.

Detective Sergeant Fiona Carter from South Ribble CID said: "I would appeal to anyone who thinks they may have witnessed this incident or who may have any information or CCTV footage relating to this matter to contact police on 08451 25 35 45 quoting log reference number LC-20100717-1788 or call Leyland CID directly on 01772 415947/415847 asking for DC Nuttall or DS Carter."

Alternatively information can also be passed onto Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
