‘It’s like it was meant to be’.

It felt like fate had played a part for Lynne Roberts when her local pub, the Rose and Crown in Farington, went on the market.

She had recently retired from running the Red Lion at Longton but had already started to miss ‘the pub life’, so was delighted when her favourite pub became available.

Now, after a £70,000 refurbishment, she’s opened its doors as The Rose of Farington, and says she has a really good feeling about its future.

“I always said I’d never run a pub under a brewery again,” she explained. “I wanted something I could buy out-right, but I’d also always said that the only pub I wanted was the Rose and Crown.

“It’s been my local for about 40 years, and it came for sale a month after I’d retired from the Red Lion.

“It’s like it was meant to be.”

Lynne, who lived on Leverhouse Lane before moving into the pub on Stanifield Lane, is running the establishment with husband Phil.

The pair have spent the last seven weeks revamping the popular pub, with new floors and a bright colour theme.

Lynne said: “It was getting a bit run-down, and we wanted a completely fresh start.

“That’s why we gave it a new name as well.

“We’ve redecorated everywhere and people are amazed by it.

“We want it to be modern but homely, and with character. We’ve kept the bar in the same place because that was perfect, and we’ve just polished it.

“We want it to still be a traditional pub, and we’ll be doing bingo and poker nights, and live music nights too.

“I’ve just got a really good feeling about it. I really think this will work.”

She added: “This pub is for the people of Farington, and on the opening night, we gave a rose to each of the first 100 ladies who came in.”

The next step is for the kitchen to be done up, and Lynne wants to start serving breakfasts at the weekend.
