A SOUTH Ribble high school is set to make a bid for specialist status.
Staff at Walton-le-Dale High School are putting the final touches to their bid for dual status of Performing Arts with Business and Enterprise.
If the school in Brindle Road, Bamber Bridge, is successful, it will be the only school in the country with this combination of specialist status subjects and will have access to funding of around 500,000 over four years.
Headteacher Tony Hill said: "There is a lot of paper work to get through when compiling the bid, but it will be worth it in the long run if we are successful.
"As part of the bid we have to set ourselves challenging targets to meet in terms of education and develop links with the local community.
"These are things that we want to do anyway regardless of the bid for specialist status, so we have been working hard towards these goals."
Successfully gaining the status will mean that the school can use an additional one-off capital grant of 100,000 and yearly government funding of 80,000 for the next four years to develop the school and the community, which will give them access to better facilities and resources for the staff and pupils.
As a school, Walton-le-Dale has to raise 50,000 in funding in order for the bid to progress.
Staff are now on the look out for potential partners to help sponsor the bid for specialist status.
Mr Hill, said: "We would be looking for local firms to help us, as we want to work with the businesses and organisations in the local community, because that is where our students will be going.
"We are very proud of our students and their achievements and we want to give them the best possible education at school.
"If we are successful we will have access to top quality provisions which will allow us to benefit the children."
The school is hoping to submit the bid in February next year.
