Eccleston’s Sir Bradley Wiggins will make a guest appearance on the world’s longest-running serial drama, BBC Radio 4’s The Archers, in a special storyline for Sport Relief.

The four-time Olympic gold medallist and Tour de France winner will make a cameo as himself in one special episode at 7pm on Friday, March 21.

As Sport Relief fever takes hold of Ambridge and the locals prepare for their own fundraising event, Sir Bradley arrives to crown the village winner – but not before the cycling hero has an amusing encounter with Lynda Snell and her rusty old bike.

He said: “When I was asked to record a Sport Relief special for The Archers, there was no way I could turn it down. I grew up with it on the radio in the house and it’s not every day you get to star in the world’s longest-running soap opera.

“Meeting the cast, the writer and the director was an honour and I really hope the storyline will raise awareness about Sport Relief’s amazing work, and that it shows people that everyone can get involved in Sport Relief this year.”

The Sport Relief Games take place from March 21 to 23 and for the first time includes cycling events as well as running and swimming.

There are thousands of events across the UK, including the Chorley Mile at Astley Park on Sunday, March 23.

People can run or walk either one, three or six miles to raise money for Sport Relief.
