Takeaway plans

Plans to rebuild a collapsed takeaway in Leyland town centre have been given the green light.

The former Shadh takeaway on Chapel Brow fell down more than three years ago after a sewer next to the building collapsed.

The building is now set to be rebuilt, being turned into a takeaway on the ground floor and offices on the first floor, after plans were approved by planning bosses at South

Ribble Council.

The building remains fenced off until the work starts.

Court hearing

A Proceeds of Crime Act hearing in the case of two men jailed over a robbery at a Lloyds TSB bank in Hough Lane, Leyland, will be held on July 19 this year.

Darren Hope, 33, of Maple Crescent, Leigh, and Justin Hulme, 27, of Norbury Street, also Leigh, pleaded guilty last year of being involved in an armed robbery, in which £48,000 was stolen from the bank. The hearing will be at Preston Crown Court.

Fire campaign

A fire safety campaign is being launched in the area surrounding Northbrook Gardens, off Bannister Drive, Leyland, following the death of an elderly woman in a bedroom blaze at the weekend.

Fire chiefs are investigating the blaze, but still do not know the cause.

The illustrated talk by David Hindle starts at 11am in Church Road, Leyland.

It coincides with an exhibition titled The Golden Age of Steam, compiled by ex museum curator Adrian Lewis.
