Swarm of bees terrorise Leyland

Waiting for Video...

A massive swarm of bees caused mayhem in Leyland this afternoon.

Reader Mark Wrightson has sent us these photos of the bees around the Seven Stars area of the town.

The 45-year-old, who lives on Leyland Lane, said: “I was just sat down with a cup of tea and I noticed it was quite dark outside.

“I looked out and my eyes adjusted and I thought ‘what the hell is that?’

“I just saw all these bees coming from down Leyland Lane towards the Spar.

“They hovered around the Spar for a bit and it was quite busy.

“People were walking along blissfully unaware for a second before they realised there were all these bees about, and then they started flapping.”

He added: “The bees eventually settled in my neighbour’s rose bush. I called pest control but you have to pay for them to come out, so I don’t think there’s much we can do.

“I’ve no idea where they came from, but there’s a lot of grass-cutting and hedge-cutting going on at the minute so maybe that’s disturbed them.”
