Takways 'do nothing for our town'
A Leyland restaurant owner has called on the council to stop a rising tide of fast food outlets she claims are spoiling the town.
Last week, the Guardian revealed how Chapel Brow is being overrun with late-night takeaways after another Indian restaurant opened on the town centre street.
Catherine Jump, who owns La Casa Caterina tapas bar and Mediterranean restaurant in Chapel Brow, says the growing number of takeaways are threatening her own successful business by turning the neighbourhood into a 'no-go area'.
She also claims that each morning she has to clean cigarette ends, kebab boxes and other debris from in front of her establishment because the takeaway owners do little to curb problems with litter and late night nuisance.
The restaurateur said: "They bring nothing positive to the area and I wish the council would stop granting permission for more and more takeaways - it is getting ridiculous.
"How many fast food places do they think Leyland needs?"
Since taking over the popular restaurant five years ago, Catherine has ploughed more than 350,000 into making La Casa Caterina the premier restaurant in Leyland.
Thanks to promotions such as live music twice a week and a popular tapas menu, the restaurant has become a runaway success.
