Residents who are proud of their sheltered accommodation in Leyland have told of their upset and shock after allegations were made about a housing association last week.

Residents who are proud of their sheltered accommodation in Leyland have told of their upset and shock after allegations were made about a housing association last week.

The Guardian published a story in which the son of a new tenant at Jubilee Court, off West Paddock, was unhappy with the service from New Progress Housing, and said the bathroom facilities in the flat were not suitable for his 75-year-old father.

He claimed that neighbours in Jubilee Court had told him they had similar problems, and sometimes had to share showering facilities because their bathrooms were not suitable either.

But a group of tenants has contacted the Guardian to say they have never experienced any problems in the years they have been there, and want people to know that Jubilee Court is the ‘best’ place to live.

Margaret Bond, who has lived there for 13 years, said: “All of the residents are happy to live here, and a lot have been here a long time.

“We want people to know that we were very shocked and upset by the allegations, because we’ve never had any complaints at all.

“We think it’s a great place to live.”

Betty Papadopoulos, who has lived in Jubilee Court for eight years, said: “The only time people have ever shared shower facilities is when someone is having work done and a neighbour has offered for them to use their bathroom in the meantime - that’s the neighbourly thing to do.

“There are no problems here. I’ve made so many good friends and we have an excellent warden.

“Everyone wants to know that their family members are being looked after, and we feel very well looked after here.

“We couldn’t ask to live in a better place, and we don’t want people to be put off coming here.

“We think Jubilee Court is the best of New Progress Housing’s schemes.

“We have bingo, dominoes and barbecues in the summer - it’s got everything we want here.”

Maureen Stoiles added: “I thought it was heaven when I moved here 10 years ago.

“I love it; I don’t like anybody calling our Jubilee Court.”
