Thousands enjoy Leyland Festival - round 2
This time the weather was good and the festival was great!
Thousands of revellers lined the streets and poured onto Worden Park for the Leyland Festival this weekend.
The parade, which made its way down Hough Lane and Towngate onto the park on Saturday, included 143 vehicles and 60 motorcycles.
On the park itself, visitors enjoyed a host of attractions including a funfair, 40 stalls, cooking competitions and a dog show.
The festival was postponed in July after days of torrential rain and volunteer organisers were hugely relieved it remained fine for the re-arranged event.
Stephen Bullock, who is chairman of the organising committee, said: “When we had to postpone it in July lots of events were cancelled full-stop, but we made a commitment it would happen.
“Picking this weekend in late September was always a gamble but we have been lucky with the weather.
“Through the whole experience we have had the Dunkirk spirit.
“We lost the battle in July with the weather but we won the war by having it in September.”
Next year’s event will take place during the first weekend in July and the team of volunteers has already started planning for the celebration.
He said: “I would really like to thank everybody involved, I am very grateful for all of the help and support.”
