Tributes to crash death couple
Tributes have been paid to a couple from Leyland who died while biking in Scotland.
Peter and Jacqueline Corris, of Cocker Lane, Moss Side, were killed when the Harley Davidson motorcycle they were travelling on collided with a car three miles south of the village of Dalwhinnie.
The couple, who were keen bikers, were heading south on the A9 in the Highlands on Bank Holiday Sunday at around 10.48am when the crash took place. They died instantly.
Four people had to be cut free from Renault Megane car involved in the collision and were taken to hospital for treatment.
Photographer Aaron Sneddon, from Scotland, took these images of the crash.
He said: "I've seen lots of accidents in my time but I have never seen anything like this. It takes a lot to shock me but seeing the bike laying there and all the debris in the road was really harrowing.
"It looks like they were in the wrong place at the wrong time. The whole scene was a real mess and I'll never forget what I saw."
Back home in Leyland, Mr and Mrs Corris' family have been being comforted by relatives at the detached bungalow they shared on the outskirts of Leyland. They were too upset to comment.
However, friends and fellow members of the close-knit biking community reacted with sadness to the shock news.
Jag and Nisha, of Krishnan Jewellers in Chorley, said: "Peter and Jaqueline will be missed deeply. They started off as customers in our shop but soon turned into friends. They will always remain in our hearts."
Ian Catt, chairman of biking club Cat MCC based in Leyland, said he knew of the couple and is familiar with the route they were riding when the crash took place.
He said: "I used to see them at quite a few biking rallies. They were always very friendly and enjoyed biking. It's very sad indeed.
"Obviously at this time of the year it's going to be busy in Dalwhinnie. It's a popular biking spot and it's a very nice area.
"There's a mixture of narrow roads up there and wide roads where you can go fast. It really is a shame."
Ernie Maxwell, chairman of the Leyland Eagles, said: "When something like this happens, it does affect everybody whether you know them or not – especially as we're such a close community.
"We all go to different rallies and different events and see each other then."
The crash took place just 25 miles from the Thunder in the Glen Harley Davidson Festival near Aviemore. It is not known if the couple had been at the event.
A spokesperson for the Northern Constabulary, the force dealing with the tragedy, said an investigation has been launched.
A file will be passed to the Procurator Fiscal, who will decide whether charges will be brought. He confirmed Lancashire Police had appointed a family liaison officer.
