The Our Local Heroes Foundation charity, based in Bamber Bridge, has introduced a new initiative to help veterans in the region.
It is launching a mobile drop-in centre in Leyland tomorrow, Tuesday, which will enable veterans throughout the region to have access to the help and support they need without travelling great distances to get it.
The drop-in-centre is one of many initiatives developed by former army officer and founder of the foundation, Steve Pearson, to be rolled out over the next 12 months.
Steve said: “The idea is that the mobile office can travel around the region three days a week and set up in supermarket car parks or town centres providing easy access for veterans to call in and have a coffee and a chat.
“It enables the staff manning the centre, all former service personnel, to discuss with the veterans what their issues might be and to see what assistance they require.”
The scheme will be headed up by the charity’s chief operating officer, former Warrant Officer Pete Rhodes, who has just left the army after 28 years’ service.
The drop-in centre will be at Asda in Towngate, Leyland, tomorrow.
