Regeneration plans for a fire-ravaged business park are set to be approved this week.
A huge warehouse on Lancashire Business Park in Farington, Leyland, was destroyed when a blaze broke out on December 22 last year.
The fire, tackled by 150 firefighters, was the biggest blaze in Lancashire for a decade and left tens of millions of pounds worth of damage.
South Ribble planners are recommending proposals to create new business units plus car parking spaces on the site be approved this week.
The plan is to build three units for storage and distribution on the cleared site where a single, 44,000sq m warehouse used to stand.
Site owners Lancashire County Developments Limited (LCDL) have been in talks with tenants affected by the fire, with a view to them taking on the new premises.
Barbara Parkinson, company secretary of H Parkinson Haulage, said her firm was considering renting a unit.
The family-run company has been renting temporary premises on the business park since their storage warehouse burned down last year.
She said: “We’re in negotiations with the council.
“We’ve also taken premises at Walton Summit to keep us going.
“We’ve had to spread ourselves a bit here, there and everywhere.
“We’ve been using Unit 11 on (Lancashire) Business Park which is rather old and not perfect but it keeps us in the area.
“We are interested in staying local.”
Bowker Transport also lost a storage unit in the blaze, which took more than a week to fully extinguish.
Fire chiefs have warned it could take years to reach a conclusion to a complex investigation into the cause of the fire.
No objections have been received from the public to the new planning application.
A report sent to South Ribble councillors advises: “The proposal is consider to be in accordance with Local Plan policies in that it provides modern employment facilities within an existing employment area.
“There will be no undue impact in terms of parking and highway capacity.
“As such the application is recommended for approval subject to the imposition of conditions.”
The planning committee will discuss the application at 6pm on Wednesday at the Civic Centre.
