Vital meeting over Moss Side Test Track future

Moss Side Test Track, Leyland

Moss Side Test Track, Leyland

Residents will to meet to discuss the future of Moss Side Test Track this week.

A special meeting is being held tomorrow night (Thursday) to give people a chance to voice their views about plans to turn the old Leyland Motors site into a housing and employment development.

Councillor for the area, Michael Green, has organised the meeting as part of the council’s Local Development Framework (LDF) final public consultation period.

He said: “Whilst there appears to be a general acceptance in the community that the development will take place at some point, there are issues which residents have raised with me.

“We are now at a stage where the council is carrying out a final consultation regarding sites which have been identified as suitable for development, so I felt the time was right to hold a public meeting with residents.

“Officers from South Ribble Council and Lancashire County Council have agreed to attend, and they will be able to explain to residents the stage that we are currently at.

“It will also give people a very useful opportunity to raise any issues which will need to be considered before the development could take place.”

He added: “I have always been firmly of the view that if this development is to take place, we must seek to minimise the potential negative impacts upon the local area and seek to maximise the potential benefits which may arise from it.

“This is an opportunity for people have their say and help to shape the future of the Moss Side and Midge Hall area.”

The council and property owner Pilgrim Technologies have agreed to work together in a bid to market the site to potential developers, and have drawn up a detailed plan outlining what the site should be used for.

This includes around 850 homes, a Business Park, industrial estate, public open space including playing fields and playgrounds, and a Neighbourhood Centre including a shop, restaurant, pub and newsagent.

The meeting takes place on Thursday, August 2, at Moss Side Community Centre, Dunkirk Lane, at 6pm.
