Weekend work on Leyland M6 junction

Work on the £300,000 Leyland M6 bridge scheme is expected to be completed next week.

However, the ongoing improvements to the motorway road surface mean

a full closure of the northbound carriageway this weekend.

Highways Agency engineers are advising that a contraflow system with a 50 mph speed limit will be in place for the duration of the work with two lanes running in each direction using the three southbound lanes and the hard shoulder.

It is hoped the work will start and finish on Friday, September 19, at 9pm and completed on or before 5am on the following Monday (September 22).

However the work has already been put back from last weekend due to bad weather, and may need to be delayed to a subsequent weekend.

Highways Agency Project Manager Amy Williams said, "The bridge structure will be stripped, repaired, re-waterproofed and fitted with new drainage and resurfaced. This will help extend the life of the bridge and improve the driving experience for motorway users."

The work at Hole House Interchange has been scheduled for completion ahead of a larger, four month scheme half a mile south at Rose Whittle Bridge which is due to begin in October.

The timing of the schemes has been devised to minimise disruption to drivers and maximise safety.
