Who is the Leyland hoax caller?
Lancashire Constabulary are appealing for the public to help them track a man who has made over 40 hoax 999 calls to emergency services for an address in Leyland.
The calls, which are asking emergency services to attend Fernlea in Leyland, are wasting valuable time and resources.
The first call was received back in July and since then a further 43 calls have been made. The content of the calls is to ask emergency services to attend incidents like chip pan fires or to report someone who has collapsed in the street.
Measurers have been taken by the force to put a block on the callers number but due to call roaming systems he has been able to continue to make the hoax calls.
Inspector Steve Evans from Lancashire Constabulary said: "I would ask the public to listen to these calls and see if they can help identify the man responsible. To make one hoax call to the emergency services is bad enough but over forty is completely irresponsible.
"While our operators are dealing with these types of calls, people in genuine need of emergency help may be trying to get through. At best, these irresponsible calls are wasting valuable time but at the very worst, they could cost lives."
Lancashire Constabulary receive over 200,000 999 calls every year which are prioritised appropriately.
Inspector Evans added: "Anyone making false calls to the emergency services will be dealt with severely and action will be taken through the courts when necessary."
People in a genuine emergency should call 999. The number for all non-emergencies is 0845 1 253545.
