Accident on Kingswood Road in Leyland

A care worker smashed a car into a house, trapping her leg in the vehicle’s door.

Firefighters were called to rescue the 58-year-old woman after the vehicle crashed into patio doors.

The woman, who has not been named, had been making a home care visit to a property on Kingswood Road, Leyland, when the vehicle shunted forward after she started the engine at around 12.10pm yesterday.

The woman, who works for Lancashire County Council, had one leg in the car and became trapped when it lurched forward and crashed through the patio doors.

Firefighters freed the woman from the car and made the property safe.

Crew manager Chris Blackburn, from Leyland fire station, said: “The driver started the car and it jumped forward, trapping the driver’s leg in the door.

“It actually went into the property. We just had to release the lady’s leg from the door by moving the stuff that she had crashed into.

“A few people were shaken up. It was quite a shock.”

Deane McMorris, area domiciliary manager at Lancashire County Council, said: “A minor accident occurred at a property in Leyland, causing some damage to the house and a car, and a leg injury to one of our staff.

“We will have the damage assessed and do what needs to be done to make good.

“We are grateful that no-one was seriously hurt.”

A spokesman for the North West Ambulance Service said the patient was taken to Chorley and South Ribble Hospital.

A man at the property declined to comment.
