Worden Park maze gets ‘exit’ gates

Gates have now been installed to prevent vandalism and provide an emergency exit at Worden Park’s maze.

Signs on the two new gates, which lead directly to the middle of the attraction, read ‘Shortcut to Exit’ on the inside and ‘No Entry – You are cheating if you go this way’ on the outside.

South Ribble Council’s cabinet member for Neighbourhood Services, Coun Peter Mullineaux, said:

“As well as protecting the historic hedges, the gates mean that visitors who have reached the middle or are totally lost can now take a shortcut to the exit, and gardeners and the police also have easier access when required.

“We once took a phonecall from a school after two of their pupils called to explain they were lost in the maze, so we had to send a member of staff out to rescue them!”

He added: “The hedges have not been damaged since the gates were installed, and the signs clearly tell people what the gates are there for, so the problem has hopefully been solved without spoiling the experience for visitors.”
