A staggering 1,000 visitors took part in the Big Lunch at sunny Worden Park on Friday.
Organised by the Broadfield Community Association and supported by South Ribble Council’s Leyland My Neighbourhood Forum and the Progress Housing Group, the event saw families from across Leyland meet up for picnics and games.
County Councillor for Leyland South West, Michael Green, said: “Over the course of four hours, more than 1,000 visitors went to the event, the majority being families from the Leyland area.
“The Big Lunch aims to build local residents’ confidence and skills to host their own Big Lunch and equip them to take the lead in planning future community events.
“It’s a great way for people to get to know their neighbours too. Many of the visitors have told me how much they enjoyed the event.”
He added: “I was delighted to have played a small part in making the event a success, by contributing a Local Members’ Grant to assist with some of the costs.
“These grants are available from local county councillors to assist voluntary, community and faith sector organisations to fund projects that benefit the local community.”
