A Leyland man who threatened a hotel employee with a knife in a bid to steal alcohol was yesterday sent to jail.

David Glancy, 43, of Burghley Court, was sentenced to seven years on a charge of aggravated burglary - other than a dwelling, at Preston Crown Court following an incident last year at the Farrington Lodge Hotel.

In October 2011, Glancy entered the hotel with the intention to steal alcohol from a closed hospitality suite before being confronted by a hotel employee.

Glancy then removed a ski mask; he was wearing, threatening the member of a staff with a knife before fleeing from the scene.

He was arrested by police a couple days later in Leyland town centre and subsequently pleaded not guilty to the offences leading to a full trial this month.

DC David Nuttall, of Leyland CID, said: “The sentence handed down to Glancy is fully deserved.

“He unquestionably believed that he could simply walk into an establishment and take which was not his.

“He is now paying the price for this arrogance.”
