Man accused of abducting Leyland boys
Preston Crown Court
A takeaway leaflet distributor has appeared in court charged with abducting two young boys in Leyland.
Vrujeshkumar Patel, 24, who gave his address as a flat in Preston Road, Blackburn, is accused of taking the boys, aged five and six, without lawful authority or reasonable excuse from outside their home in Leyland at around lunchtime on September 29.
It is understood he had been delivering leaflets around the estate at the time of the alleged offences.
Frantic family members found the boys around half an hour later and contacted police.
Patel, who was dressed in a black T-shirt, appeared by video link at Preston Magistrates Court, which heard there was no application for bail.
He was assisted by a Gujurati interpreter.
The two youngsters, who are related to each other, cannot be identified for legal reasons.
Patel has already indicated a plea of not guilty to two counts.
A committal date has also been fixed for Patel to appear on November 14 at Preston Crown Court.
