Hard-working volunteers at Leyland’s vehicle museum are gearing up for another jam-packed season, which kicks off early next month.

The British Commercial Vehicle Museum, on King Street, closes during the winter, but opens again in April will a full events programme to attract enthusiastic vehicle owners and visitors from far and wide.

Classic cars, historic buses and trucks are all catered for, with some new events being added to the schedule too.

Manager Keith Moyes says: “We’ve been very busy making a few changes to some of our displays, and we also have some new exhibits and vehicles too.

“We’re also going to be open for more days of the week than we have before; we’re hopeful we can attract a lot of people to Leyland this year.”

New to this year’s calendar is the Great British Lorries day in September, and the annual Meccano and Model Builder Exhibition event has been extended to two days instead of one next month.

“The Lorries day is something we’ve resurrected, back by popular demand,” Keith says. “We expect that to be extremely busy.

“The Meccano exhibit is also really popular, so we’ve extended that for the weekend.

“There’s a lot to look forward to, we’re really excited.”

Old favourites are sure to see visitors flocking to the site throughout the year, the first of which is the Bus And Coach Show next Saturday, April 6.

The Classic Ford Day and Meccano exhibit are also in April, and the Spring Transport Show returns in May.

In June, it’s the Vintage Motorcycle Show and the American Road Show, whilst in July the VW All-Comers Day is scheduled.

August sees the Cream of Classic Cars Special, September is the month for the Autumn Transport Show and the Great British Lorries Day comeback.

And finally, it’s the Model Transport Show in October.

There’s always room for more enthusiasts to join the volunteers who look after exhibits and visitors too.
