A by-election was held in South Ribble after a long-standing councillor stepped down due to ill health.
John Higgins, also known as Mick, is the borough’s newest councillor after the by-election was held on Thursday.
The Labour councillor received 481 votes to Conservative candidate Barbara Nathan’s 393 as they battled it out for the seat in Bamber Bridge East. The position replaces former councillor Jim Owen, who was also a member of the Labour party, who stepped down in September after a period of ill health.
23.45 per cent of residents in the ward turned out to have their say at the ballot box.
It means the constitution of the council is the same as after May’s borough elections, with the Conservatives holding 33 of the 55 seats, Labour 21 with one Liberal Democrat.
