A Leyland rally driver is lapping up the glory of success right now.
This season he has won his class in the inaugural Motorsport News Circuit Rally Championship, packed full of entries with crews from all over the UK.
Martin has also won his class at a local event at the Three Sisters race circuit at Ashton-in-Makerfield.
And his son Callum, 17, also competes on occasions as his co-driver at some events.
Martin raced to victory by more than two minutes in his Nissan Micra 1000cc, with Callum a former pupil of Bishop Rawstorne CE Academy, who is currently studying engineering at Runshaw College, Leyland, at his side.
“I’m currently leading the North West championship for that class by over 150 points,” said Martin.
“I also co-drive in the National Circuit Rally championship and won the class B championship in a VW Polo Gti at Snetterton in Norfolk at the weekend, co-driving for a driver from Hampshire. The car is run and prepared by Rallyme in Whitchurch Shropshire.
“We have both won our class for both drivers and co-drivers.”
The presentation will be at Oulton Park next month.”
Martin co-drove for David Mairs, together they entered all eight rounds of the championship which takes place at circuits all over the UK.
He is rightly proud of his achievements.
“It’s all self-funded on my behalf, I’ve no sponsors at the moment,” he said.
