A programme with something for everyone - that’s the promise from the organisers of RIBFEST, the brand new music and arts festival based in Ribchester.

Its programme for Festival Week - which will run in Ribchester from July 18-24 - was unveiled this week by Owen Phillips, Artistic Director of Festival organisers Clitheroe based professional theatre group Ribcaged.

He told those attending the RIBFEST programme’s launch there would be entertainment ranging from blues to folk, theatre to jazz and drama.

The Festival has risen from the ashes of the former Ribchester Festival of Music and Art - at which Ribcaged made its debut performance.

Sponsored by Workhouse Creative Marketing the new look event, playing in venues across the village, will continue the original festival’s legacy of providing opportunities and inspiration for young people with a line up including singer Ella Shaw , a swing concert with vocalist Rick Guard, acclaimed folk duo Gilmore and Roberts, sax and harp duo Polaris, The Sparkle Sisters, a family fun day with Hannah Rose Spurgeon. The Diverso String Quarter, Abba tribute act Abbarettes, The Be Loose Brothers, the Almost Blue Jazz Trio and more. There will be a Night At The Theatre from Ribcaged, an opportunity for local school children to take part in a special production and local drama group RATS will entertain with a promenade show.

Rock on the Rec on Saturday July 23 from 2-7pm will raise money for the Ribchester Sports Pavilion Fund and will, Owen hopes, be the start of an annual fund raiser for good causes. He said: “We hope future festivals will have something that brings the village together with common cause to raise money.”

The launch event concluded with a performance by jazz singer Arthur Geldard.
