The Superman Dance World Record Attempt at Runshaw College, Leyland
More than 1,000 Leyland students made a bid for a new world record as they swam, skied, flexed their muscles like a Macho Man, and flew like Superman.
Students at Runshaw College, on Langdale Road, are hoping their moves will earn them a place in the Guinness World Records after they took part in an mass dance to the 80s party classic Superman by Black Lace.
The event was organised to boost funds for the college’s charity, Runshaw Gives a Dam, and was held in the campus grounds on Friday.
College spokesman Tim Cahill said: “The charity helps villages in Kenya build dams to collect rainwater during the rainy season, which really helps them with their water supply.
“A thousand should smash the current world record, which is 360, and hopefully we’ll raise up to £5,000.”
The college made video recordings, took photographs and enlisted independent adjudicators and a qualified dance instructor to observe their world record attempt, which had to be repeated over a 15-minute spell, and now has to be ratified by the Guinness World Records.
