Teenage biker fights for life after accident

Police are appealing for witnesses following a road traffic collision in Chorley.

The incident happened last Tuesday at around 8pm on Blackburn Road (B6228) near to the junction with Knowley Brow.

A 16-year-old boy from the local area was riding a 50cc moped when he collided with a telegraph pole.At first, his injuries were not thought to be life-threatening but his condition has deteriorated and he is in a critical condition at the Royal Preston Hospital.

Sergeant John Wharton from the Road Policing Unit said, “I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and witnessed the incident to come forward and contact police.

“The 16-year-old boy is very poorly in hospital and we have specially trained officers supporting his family through this difficult time.”

The Guardian has chosen not to name the teenager but a friend of the family said it was a worrying time for everyone.

“Our prayers and thoughts with his parents and family at this time,” said the friend. “We don’t know the circumstances but we know his condition has taken a serious turn for the worse.”
