A church’s very first Christmas tree festival has been hailed a real success – with the promise of it being even bigger and better next year.

The event was held at St James’ Church, Slater Lane, Leyland, over the weekend.

Trees were put up on display, starting the countdown to the Christmas period.

Reverend Marc Wolverson said: “It was an idea that came from our social and fundraising committee, firstly to open up the church to the community and welcome people in, and secondly to raise much needed funds for the ongoing mission and ministry of our parish church.

“It was very attended and we raised £540.”

Reverend Wolverson said the event created a lot of interest over the weekend, adding: “There were many inquiries from interested people. Probably watch this space, it will be bigger and better next year.
