Forecasters have warned Lancashire is set for a deluge of rain this weekend.
The Met Office has issued an ‘amber warning’ for floods in Lancashire with 50 to 60mm of rainfall expected across many places with up to 100mm in certain spots.
The Government’s Environment Agency has warned the heavy rain which was due to last from this afternoon into tomorrow, could cause surface water flooding of roads and land.
Bosses also warned rivers in built-up areas would be particularly susceptible because they are quickly affected by large amounts of rainfall.
The North West was due to see its heaviest rainfall at around midday tomorrow and Environment Agency staff have been dispatched to check flood defences, clear river blockages and monitor river levels.
Many parts of England have been hit by flooding in recent weeks in the face of unseasonably wet weather, which came after two dry winters which left swathes of England in drought.
