After more than two years of speculation pub giant JD Wetherspoon has finally confirmed when it will be opening a branch in Leyland.
The Leyland Lion will be opening its door in the former Post Office building in Hough Lane on October 18.
The move will create 40 jobs with recruitment due to begin in late September.
A sign has been put up on the former Spar in Hough Lane saying ‘JD Wetherspoon’ and ‘The Leyland Lion - Coming Soon.’
Locals say that it is just the boost the town needs and will hopefully attract more high-street names to the town. Mike Fadden, owner of the Leyland Electra Centre in Hough Lane, said: “We don’t like to see buildings boarded up and that one has been empty for a number of years.
“It cannot do any harm to the shops in the middle of the town and people will park up shop and then go for a drink or a meal.”

Even some of the Leyland Lion’s potential competitors are welcoming the move.
Stephen Melling, 64, has been running the Gables on Hough Lane for the past 29 years, said; “There will be a honeymoon period when they move in and everyone will want to see what they are offering.
“However, I know it will settle down and our customers will come back because they know us well.
“We may not be able to compete with them in terms of low price but we will offer quality.
“It has been a long time coming and I am sick of people asking when is Wetherspoons opening but we hear nothing.
“The competition will be great for Hough Lane and I am looking forward to it.”
Coun Caleb Tomlinson, who represents Leyland Central ward, said: “I am absolutely delighted that they are coming to the area and it will breathe new life to the town centre.
“It is a company who have a good reputation for very good food at reasonable prices and are not magnets for trouble.
“They seem to be well-policed and this time next year we could have a Wetherspoons and an Asda playing a role in regenerating the town centre.”
A spokesman for JD Wetherspoon, said: “Redevelopment work has now started on the site in Hough Lane, Leyland, with the new Wetherspoon pub due to open on October 18 (subject to change).
“A total of 40 new jobs will be created at the pub and recruitment is due to start in mid to late-September.”
