Bamber Bridge manager Phil Entwistle said his decision to axe six players for Saturday's game against Wakefield proves he's not afraid of making tough decisions.
The Brig boss decided to wield the axe after watching his team lose back-to-back home games against Lancaster City and FC Halifax.

As well as dropping half a dozen players, Entwistle also made a number of positional changes.

It meant that of the team who played in the 5-2 defeat against FC Halifax on Tuesday night, only goalkeeper Andy Banks, striker Alex Porter and defender Adam Tonge started in their normal positions against Wakefield.

New signings John Kennedy – who previously played at Chorley and seemingly most other clubs in Lancashire – and Colin McAllister made their debuts at full-back.

Central defender Dave McCann and midfielder Steve Flitcroft joined the fray after returning from injury while Neil Zarac played up front with goalscorer Alex Porter.

Mike Mason was preferred in midfield and the changes paid immediate dividends with a solid if unspectacular 2-0 win.

  • Brig have signed striker Anthony Murt from Burscough.
