Lancashire FA Co-operative Trophy

Bamber Bridge 0
Marine 2

Bamber Bridge FC fell at the first hurdle in the Lancashire FA trophy for the second year running as they struggled to make use of the extra man when it mattered in the last few minutes.
Marine were reduced to 10 men with three minutes remaining on the clock but as Brig chased for an equaliser it left the home side short at the back and the visitors made the score 2-0 in added time.

Both sides started the game evenly balanced with Marine's Paul Woolcott firing an early shot at Andy Banks while at the other end Neil Zarac had his effort stopped by stopper Ben Barnes.

Brig had a one of the chances of the first period when winger Steve Brown slid a pass through for Alex Porter but the Marine keeper Barnes races out to claim the ball.

Barnes had a lively first half and his reactions were tested after he dropped a Mike Mason cross and he pounced on the ball before Zarac could shoot.

With the scores level at the break it was Marine who started the second half the better as Peter Cumiskey struck the crossbar and netted the rebound.

This spurred Brig in search of an equaliser as Porter and Dave McCann were both denied on 57 and 71 minutes.

Brig keeper Banks was forced to dive at the feet of Marine striker Shaun Tuck in the last 10 minutes while Stuart Howson's header was cleared of the line.

Joe Fowler was given his marching orders when he collected a second yellow card and Brig searched for the goal to draw level but their efforts were in vain when Tim Bigland tapped the ball home in added time.

Bamber Bridge: Banks, Nay, Kennedy (Ince 65), McCann, Howson, Edmeads, Brown, Flitcroft (Black 56), Zarac (Murt 56), Porter, Mason. Subs not used: Tong, Oldfield
